Volunteers

EXISTING VOLUNTEER

My name is Katie Horne.  I’ve been an RDA volunteer for over ten year, starting off as a helper and progressing to be an instructor.   In 2005 I went as ‘groom’ with a group of riders to the Special Olympics in Glasgow where they won gold and silver medals.

In 2006 I took one of the RDA horses on loan for two years while the Centre was being built.

When I first started as a volunteer much of our riding sessions were held out of doors battling against the elements.  Now that we have our new Centre things are so different.

Working at the Centre is very enjoyable and although it’s hard work everyone seems to work well together and help each other out.

I also help maintain and update the website for the Centre.

NEW VOLUNTEER

Hello my name is Marie Watson. I have been a volunteer at The Brae for almost 6 weeks now and I am thoroughly enjoying the whole experience.

The Brae has a welcoming atmosphere with everyone 'mucking in' and doing their very best for the riders and running of the centre. I help out with side walking with the riders, mucking out and any other jobs that need doing. It is hard work but very rewarding and I really look forward to my afternoons at The Brae.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our project will rely on volunteers to support the centre manager. Opportunities are available in all aspects of stable management and schooling such as grooming, side helper and leading. Full training will be given and the opportunity to gain qualifications within RDA and Equestrian subjects will be supported.
